So foldable phones are really not just a “gimmick” anymore. Like back in 2019–2020 people were like “who even needs this?” and now suddenly everyone wants one that folds, flips or even rolls (not kidding, there’s rollables too now lol).
If you’re planning to buy a foldable this year (or just curious what’s out there), here’s a not-so-techy comparison of the latest models. I’ll talk about what’s good, what’s annoying, and which ones are honestly just overpriced.
The Contenders (2025)
-
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6
-
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6
-
OnePlus Open 2 (or whatever they end up calling it)
-
Motorola Razr 50 Ultra
-
Google Pixel Fold 2
-
HONOR Magic V3
-
OPPO Find N5 (or N5 Flip)
Design & Build – What Feels Good in Hand?
-
Z Fold 6 is big and still kind of bulky when folded. It’s great as a mini tablet, but holding it in one hand feels like holding a small brick sometimes.
-
Z Flip 6 wins in pocket-friendliness. Fold it and it fits anywhere. Plus the hinge feels smoother this year.
-
Motorola Razr 50 Ultra feels premium AND fun. The outer display is huge and actually usable. Colors are too.
-
OnePlus Open 2 is thinner than Fold and opens flatter. Honestly feels better in hand. They nailed that hinge.
-
Pixel Fold 2 is still kinda wide when closed. Some people like it, but others (me included) found it awkward at first.
-
HONOR Magic V3 is surprisingly slim. Like shockingly thin for a foldable. Design-wise, maybe the sleekest out there.
✅ Winner (feel-wise): Tie between OnePlus Open and HONOR Magic V3
Too bulky award: Galaxy Fold still takes the cake here lol
️ Display Quality
-
Samsung’s inner displays are super vibrant, bright and smooth (120Hz). No doubt they’re still top-tier.
-
OnePlus and Oppo both have very little crease – which makes watching stuff better imo.
-
Razr’s cover display is big enough to use like a real phone. Can even text from it.
-
Pixel Fold has solid colors but the crease is more noticeable than others.
Oh also, almost all of them now use UTG (ultra thin glass) instead of plastic so they don’t scratch as easy anymore. Thank god
✅ Winner: Samsung Z Fold 6 for main screen, Motorola Razr 50 Ultra for outside screen
Cameras – Who’s Clicking Better Pics?
-
Samsung’s Fold 6 camera is better than last year but still not as good as S24 Ultra. That’s kinda sad for the price.
-
Z Flip 6 camera is fine but not flagship level. You buy this more for style than photos tbh.
-
OnePlus Open 2 got big improvements, esp. in low light.
-
Pixel Fold 2 is excellent with AI image processing. Still one of the best for portraits and skin tones.
-
Razr 50 Ultra… decent but not mind-blowing. Great selfies from the outer screen tho.
-
Honor Magic V3 – good sensors, but still doesn’t beat Pixel in terms of detail.
✅ Winner: Pixel Fold 2 (for photos), OnePlus Open (for balanced performance)
Battery Life & Charging
-
Foldables still can’t beat slab phones here but they’re catching up.
-
Z Fold 6 gives decent screen time but drains faster in unfolded mode.
-
Flip 6 improved, finally has better endurance than Flip 4 & 5.
-
OnePlus Open 2 has solid battery and charges FAST (like 67W or more depending on region).
-
Pixel Fold still meh in battery, sorry Google fans
-
Honor Magic V3 reportedly lasts the longest out of them all.
✅ Winner: HONOR Magic V3 and OnePlus Open 2
❌ Worst battery: sadly still Pixel Fold 2
Software & Features
-
Samsung has nailed multitasking. Drag-and-drop, app pairs, taskbar — all smooth.
-
OnePlus also added nice productivity features, and their OxygenOS on foldables is pretty slick.
-
Pixel Fold runs pure Android with some smart AI stuff, but multitasking not as advanced.
-
Motorola and Oppo have fun external screen tricks (like mini games or full apps).
Foldables NEED good software or else you’ll feel like you’re paying 1.5 lakhs for nothing new.
✅ Winner: Samsung (for multitasking), Oppo/Moto (for creative external screen usage)
Price & Value
-
Z Fold 6 is still one of the most expensive at ₹1.6–1.8L
-
Z Flip 6 is cheaper (around ₹1L or less)
-
OnePlus Open 2 expected around ₹1.3–1.4L
-
Pixel Fold 2 is expensive and not officially in India yet in many places
-
Razr 50 Ultra is around ₹95k – expensive for a Flip but stylish
-
Honor Magic V3 price is still a mystery but likely in ₹1.3L+ range
✅ Best value for fold: OnePlus Open 2
Most premium price tag: Galaxy Z Fold 6
Final Thoughts – Which Foldable Should You Buy?
Here’s the thing. Foldables are cool now. They’re not perfect yet, but they’re not toys anymore either.
Buy Z Fold 6 if:
-
You want best multitasking, premium screen, and trust Samsung
-
You’re okay with bulky design
Buy Z Flip 6 if:
-
You want compact + stylish phone, and don’t care about top specs
-
You love flipping it shut like it’s 2007 again
Buy OnePlus Open 2 if:
-
You want the most balanced foldable
-
You care about thin design + fast charging + value for money
Buy Razr 50 Ultra if:
-
You want a flip phone that turns heads
-
Outer screen matters more than inner one
Buy Pixel Fold 2 if:
-
You want top-tier camera and clean Android
-
Battery life is not a big deal for you
Should You Even Buy a Foldable?
Tbh, if you just want a reliable phone, slab phones (like iPhone 16 or S24) are still better in many ways. But if you’re bored and want something different, foldables are way more polished in 2025 than they were before.
Just… maybe don’t drop it on the first week. Repairs are still scary
